What is sin? Sin is all wrongdoing, evil thinking, or foul words spoken against God or other people. So why do we sin? Evil spirits, using our selfish pride or the temptations of the world, desire to enslave and rule over everyone, so we will not worship God. Can anyone save themselves from God’s correction, discipline, or punishment? No. God is just or righteous. A righteous payment for sins must be made to Him. Our sins make us unrighteous. Our works are insufficient payments to a Holy God. Why would a good God make it impossible to be forgiven of our sins and receive peace? Why did God send His son, Jesus Christ, to this world? To destroy the works of Satan, an evil angel and enemy of God. Since everyone sins, what should everyone do? We should humble ourselves before God and cry out for mercy and repent, or turn from the sin. Because God is all-knowing and faithful. we can believe God heard our confession of faith. We are saved from our sins when we believe in the power and authority of Jesus Christ’s holy name. Then our lives will be transformed by the love, joy, and peace of God’s amazing grace.
